Raquel’s foundation in
employment law began on qualification as a solicitor working for a well
regarded legal 500 Warwickshire law firm.
There, she gained knowledge and experience of both contentious and
non-contentious employment law on a 40/60 split, acting for a mainly
Respondent client base, her clients ranged from a world renowned national
theatre, a large Midlands based Housing Association, a top UK insurer,
redundancy referrals from a leading automotive manufacturer to several
smaller local SME’s.In 2003 Raquel went on to work for a top 50 Legal 500 Uk law firm in Birmingham. There 80% of her caseload was Respondent based and she undertook work on a rougly 70/30 contentious / non-contentious split. Her client base including redundancy referrals from a large automotive manufacturer and various public sector based organisations located across the country, including numerous NHS Trusts, Ambulance Trusts, Local Colleges and Local government. Raquel has maintained her legal and working knowledge of employment law which is extensive. She is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. Her experience includes issuing and defending claims for unfair dismissal, sex (including maternity claims), race and disability discrimination, discrimination within the provision of services, non-payment of wages/ holiday pay, whistle blowing claims, claims for constructive dismissal and breach of non-competition clause, drafting standard and bespoke employment contracts in respect of service occupancies, directors service agreements, bespoke contractual policies and clauses such as ‘duvet day clauses’, collective advice on mass voluntary redundancy schemes and compromise agreements, due diligence in respect of agreements for large scale voluntary transfers, individual executive severances and human resources/ employment advice, TUPE, redundancy, pay and working time-related issues. In particular she has a good working knowledge of the Whitley Council Rules, Doctors disciplinary procedures, the Green Book and the Grey book. Over and above core legal skills, Raquel has co-written the course materials for several seminars and lectures at which she has presented. She possesses exemplary advocacy skills and has experience of issuing employment related claims in the County Court in addition to the Employment Tribunal. She has had the benefit of working with several time recording and case management systems including videss and solcase. Networking, marketing, team building and the supervision of less qualified lawyers have always formed an integral part of Raquel’s practice.
